Fed: Police plead for witnesses to Kingston Raiders brawl
CANBERRA, April 24 AAP - Police today repeated pleas for witnesses to the brawl last
month involving Canberra Raiders footballers to come forward.
Raiders lock Jason Croker was taken to hospital with head injuries after the fight
outside a Kingston nightclub.
Despite DNA and fingerprint samples taken from a gun produced during the brawl, police
have been unable to identify the owner of the firearm or who was responsible for bringing
it to the area.
"The firearm is not registered and the serial number on the weapon has been found to
be fake," ACT Policing Commander Operations Ben McDevitt said in a statement.
"At this stage in the investigation we have insufficient evidence to lay charges against anyone."
Mr McDevitt said police had interviewed more than 20 people in relation to the incident
in which Raiders player Craig Simon disarmed the gun-toting man and team-mate Luke Davico
threw the weapon on a nearby roof.
"Unfortunately no-one saw who hit Jason Croker with the star picket and no-one saw
who produced the firearm," he said.
Without further information or witnesses coming forward, Mr McDevitt said police would
not be able to lay any charges in relation to the incident.
Police absolved the players of any blame and were seeking to interview four Sydney men.
Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers on 1800 333 000.
